APRIL The 21st, 2007 - UPDATE ON THE LEGACY MAG. SUBJECT (And let's hope it's the last one ever)
As
predictable, the FT post about our band being boycotted in Germany by
Legacy Magazine, spawned some chaos around the Internet. After various
problems, this should be the final explanation/sentence of the band
(unless there are some other news to come).
THE STORY:
Our label (Avantgarde Music) was simply sending out promos for
our new "Negative Megalomania" album in December 2006, and they sent
one to Legacy Mag. The magazine agreed to have FT covered in one of
their next issues, with interview, review, advertisement and a song on
its compilation CD. After a few days, our label-boss told me that
Legacy was cancelling everything, due to some "Nazi paranoia".
Basically, someone at the magazine said that FT was "suspected Nazi"
due to the presence of 2 members in a band called "F.T.E.", and due to
one of Herr Morbid' side-projects called "(The True) Gaszimmer Org.".
After a few mails, our label-boss told me "They said they will agree to
the interview if you answer to questions about this Nazi-thing and make
people know you're not Nazi", etc. I just answered something like "Tell
them that I think it's retarded, all this stuff has nothing to do with
FT, everyone knows FT is not a Nazi band", and I waited for some news
about all this story. After a while, I've been told they refused to
interview the band, since I didn't agree to talk about the
political-matter. So, I just got pissed-off and I wrote that mail to
the editor-in-chief of Legacy Mag., Sascha, and I've never got a reply
about the interview. So I decided to boycott Legacy Mag., since they
were boycotting the band.
Then now some informers told
me about a thread regarding this subject on the Legacy Magazine Website
Forum (www.legacy.de), and then I found out some Moderator who
talks a lot of bullshit about the band. I don't know who this guy
is, and I've never got any mail from him, but I suppose he's one of the
Legacy Magazine's writers. As I already said, I (Herr Morbid) replied
to Legacy Mag. via
mail months ago, about all the "Nazi"-controversy, since they asked for
explanations. I was really exhausted about all this thing, and I made
sure to explain to the writers of that magazine my own vision about all
the politically-related issues in my mail. I was already definitely
pissed-off about all that story, since our label-boss at Avantgarde
Music already e-mailed the Legacy Mag. several times about all this
"boycott"-thing, so this explains my "hatred" on that mail. But here
comes the funny thing: this guy, apparently
working in Legacy Mag., decided not to post the full text of the e-mail
I sent to Sascha/Legacy Mag. on the Forum, but only a "Legacy-Oriented"
version of
it instead, just to make things look like if I threatened the magazine
without
any reason. Basically, he has censored my mail cutting the "explanatory
parts" and leaving the insults exclusively (avoiding every freedom of
speech, again: looks like people at Legacy are very talented at this).
So, first of all: FUCK YOU! Why didn't you reply to my
mail, instead of going around on the Forum, talking shit about me in
the back?? I was expecting a reply from you or from Legacy Mag., and I
never got one. So, since you were boycotting my band (ignoring all my
clear explanations and thus ignoring the band itself), I decided to
boycott Legacy Mag. . So, don't try to cheat people with your lies, and
next time
reply to my mail, instead of talking shit. Here it goes the
original text of the mail, so everyone can see. I got it saved when I
sent it out in January. The mail was sent to the editor-in-chief of
Legacy Mag., Sascha:
THE MAIL:
" Hi Sascha,
here's HM on behalf of the FORGOTTEN TOMB band.
Well, I'm writing you since I'm really pissed-off about the
interview/promotion situation with your Legacy Magazine. As far as I
know, you're worried about the fact that FT "could be" a nazi band.
First of all: FT IS NOT a nazi band. There's no much to say: did you
ever take a look to our album's lyrics? I seriously doubt it, since
it's completely impossible to find nazi or politically-inspired
lyrics/topics in our songs. We deal with completely different themes.
Secondly, the F.T.E. thing: here's the explanation. First
of all, it's not MY band, I just helped out a friend of mine (the
drummer of the band) for a short reunion in 2003, as a session
guitar-player. And once more, I think you didn't read the lyrics of
the one and only band's album: they're totally unpolitical! And by the
way, I never played on a FTE studio-release in my whole career. The
band was born in 1995 and split-up in 1998, and none of their songs
were talking about politics. But after their split-up, the old singer
put up a new line-up and released those 2 ugly songs on the infamous
"White Death" compilation. About this: as far as I know, those 2 songs
were supposed to be released under a different monicker (Death Enemy),
but for promotional purposes the old singer used the FTE monicker,
causing a real fucking mess. The old members got really pissed-off
about this, but it was too late. When the band was reunited for a
short reunion in 2003, the original drummer and founding member
recruited me and Forgotten Tomb's guitar-player Razor SK since we're
friends. This guy has never been a nazi and by the way we never
played the 2 songs that appeared on the "White Death" CD, since
they're not to be considered original FTE material! That's all about
the FTE problem.
Regarding (The True) Gaszimmer project: there are no official releases
of this project. A demo called "Scorn Triumphant" was recorded but
never released, and the lyrics on it were totally unpolitical (they
were dealing with classic Black Metal topics such as darkness, death
etc.). There has been some trouble since another italian band (clearly
NSBM) used the monicker GASZIMMER and released some Nazi stuff, so
many people is really confused about it. This is the reason why I
changed again the monicker of my band to (The True) Gaszimmer
Organization. In the end, I decided to drop the band because I was
pissed off about all this confusion.
Regarding my own political ideas: I'm not really interested in
politics and by the way, this is not your fucking business! After the
things you said to Rob of Avantgarde, I started thinking Legacy is a
left-winged magazine, not unpolitical! Because if it was really
unpolitical, you would not care about all this nazi-paranoia, since
Forgotten Tomb lyrics/attitude has nothing to do with politics!! So,
let me tell you: I don't give a flying fuck if you're left-winged,
anarchic or whatever else, I need to promote my band and I care about
music exclusively, and you should too! Since FT has nothing to do with
politics, you really CAN'T boycott our band, otherwise YOU are the
racist/ politically-involved person here!
And once more: since you don't want to interview FT
because, in YOUR opinion, we are a Nazi band, won't you interview
Napalm Death or Kreator then? Everyone knows those 2 bands are CLEARLY
left-winged, but I don't think you'll refuse to interview them. So,
who's playing games here??
We played in Germany several times and we always had a really great
reaction from audience. German people LOVE Forgotten Tomb. So, if you
start boycotting my band, I'll start boycotting Legacy Mag! ALL FT
fans will stop buying your magazine, and believe me, they're thousand
copies! You better think about it. I think I'm cooperating as much as
I can, but if you want to start a fucking war, you really better think
about it before, 'cause I'm going to raise a motherfucking HELL about
this story. Remember what happened in the past with bands such as Type
O Negative, Pantera, Motley Crue, even Kiss!! Magazines were beheaving
like you're doing with us, but who won in the end??
I'm waiting for your fast reply, and quit playing games! Hope you're
enough smart to cooperate with us.
Thanx for reading, regards-
HM
"
CONSIDERATIONS:
That's the one and only truth!! So, considering FT never had anything political in its lyrics/concept:
1- They should not even have the right to ask me about my political/ideological beliefs, since it's not their fucking business.
2- I think I've been very kind in losing my time to answer to this
silly people about personal things that shouldn't even concern them.
3- FT didn't start this mess, Legacy Mag. has started this mess pointing its finger against us without any good reason.
4- Legacy Mag. was the first to threaten our band, saying to our
label-boss something like "If the band doesn't accept to talk in the
interview about the Nazi-thing, we're not gonna interview the band".
This is a fucking threat, isn't it?? Why the hell should I obey to some
fucking magazine?? And above all: supposing the members of the band are
Nazi, Anarchists, Communists or whatever, an unpolitical magazine don't
have any right to boycott the band, unless the band itself spreads a
political propaganda in its lyrics. And since FT doesn't, it's pretty
obvious that there's someone at Legacy with some prejudice about my band.
I'm sorry if someone at Legacy felt "blackmailed" or something like
that, but hey, we're not nice people, and we don't kiss asses to
magazines just to have a fucking interview. You're not the only
magazine that wanted to interview the band, so if I felt so pissed-off,
it's just because I hate to hear certain bullshit from people. And when
someone decides not to interview a band because of his own
political-paranoia, well I think I have the right to find this
beheaviour pathetic, hostile and offensive. So why shouldn't I be
hostile with you too? You started this thing, not me. I guess there has
been some misunderstanding, but no one replied to my old mail to clear
up things. In all this Legacy-thing, I never got a single mail from one
of the Legacy writers. So, I think I had the right to be pissed-off.
The entire promotion of the CD on the magazine was cancelled on
retarded things that aren't even related to FT itself, and I think this
is enough to piss-off a musician. Plus, it's not the first time
that our band (and many others) is harassed by people filled with
prejudices about Black Metal, so we're exhausted about this issue. We
played Austria 2 times, and both times there were left-winged activists
doing some anti-Black Metal propaganda out of the venues (against the
entire movement, not only against FT). We played with cops walking
around under the stage and out of the venue, goddammit. I think all
this stuff is crazy. This Legacy thing was just the last drop in an
ocean of prejudices. These things seem to happen in Austria and Germany
exclusively. I'm not saying everyone is like that there, but of course
there's something wrong with many people. I won't start a deeper
social-substrate talking, since this is not the right place and time,
and I honestly don't want to talk about things that basically don't
concern us as a band. I only say: I can respect everyone's opinions
(almost), but I don't try to boycott bands, movements, socio-political
ideas, people, etc. unless they've tried to boycott me in the first
place. I don't care about left-winged activists or every other
political party, everyone should have the freedom of speech/thought,
but I just don't tolerate having people trying to boycott me and my
band out of the venues, or on magazines. I guess every other band that
had similar problems thinks the same about it. I don't ask people about
their political ideas, or about things that are not strictly related to
what we're talking about. If this is the Legacy Magazine policy,
well it's fine for me, but at least admit you've got prejudices, and
admit you've got political ideas that influence your taste in music. Or
if it's not about this, admit you want to talk about some things in
interviews just to increase the sales of your magazine. It's a very selfish and unprofessional way of leading a magazine, though.
Some people want to
replace freedom of expression with silence and indifference, so I start
to wonder who are the real Nazis here. A last consideration: Extreme
Metal music was born as an act of rebellion and it was fighting against
every moral-value and society's rule, now the Metal people
themselves seem to be more moralist and well-thinking than the
standard-people. Think about it.
Fuck all the positive-thinking, ass-licking, life-loving losers.
And to all our German fans: thanx to you all for your support and
understanding. We read all the mails you sent us on our MySpace
profile, and we've really appreciated your support. See you all on
tour, Hail Nihilism!

APRIL, The 15th, 2007 - COMPLAINT DEPT. CLOSED (THERE'S THE DOOR MOTHERFUCKERS!)
Message for the few ones who didn't like "Negative Megalomania" (and wrote us to complain):
Please,
avoid sending us mails or comments to complain about "Negative
Megalomania", since we don't give a flying fuck. Plus, you probably did
download it instead of buying it, so do us a favour: take the fucking
10 Euros you saved, and go drink a couple of beers at your local Pub,
instead of wasting your time on the fucking Internet to send us your
useless complaints. "Negative Megalomania" it's our best selling album
so far, and 99% of the reactions from Media and Fans have been GREAT,
so if you want to listen to the same old shit, you can go buy (or
download) one of the many FT-clones. Sorry but we're still leading the
pack, and we're gonna do that for still a long long time. So you'd
better go back to your nice rehearsal rooms, add a few more cuts to
your arms and try writing some decent music, before you complain about
"how FT became commercial" and all this bullshit. Fuck you and your
fucking underground "true", "kvlt", "élite", "grim", "suicidal" teenage
pseudo-attitude, you can go kiss our asses in eternity. And yes, we're
still the same old arrogant bastards we've always been, so save your
attitude-issues for someone else. Bye, bye losers!
MARCH, The 29th, 2007 - FORGOTTEN TOMB VS GERMAN MEDIA
It looks like the german media (in particular: Legacy Magazine) are
trying to boycott Forgotten Tomb without reserve. Not only they refused
to interview the band and review "Negative Megalomania", but they
refused to include the advertisement for our new album in their fucking
magazines too. The nazi-paranoia going on in the german Metal scene is
nothing new, but I think this time they're really going beyond any
reasonable measure. Starting from the idea that ALL Black Metal bands
are automatically Nazi and basing their paranoia on completely
unreliable sources, these magazines are trying to boycott our band in
every possible way. It seems like the band won't be able to play
live-shows in Germany too, due to this fucking Anti-FT Propaganda.
After explaining the band's point of view on such topics in the
clearest way possible, it seems like those people are still ignoring
the fact that FT can't be labelled as a "Nazi" band. So, with this
post, we're asking to all our german fans to boycott the german Metal
magazines, since they're trying to boycott our band.
I think all this story is completely pathetic, especially when I see
Legacy Magazine putting up Type O Negative's Peter Steele on the
front-cover of their current issue (all german Metalheads will remember
the controversial battle of Peter Steele against the german media and
left-winged activists in the middle of '90s, due to the same reasons
that led me to write this post).
So, if you support our band, boycott those fucking magazines. We know
most of the magazines get money from the national Publishers
Associations to be printed, and that's probably the real reason why all
this mess happened. They fear that covering a "suspected Nazi" band,
they could have problems from the government and lose money, heh.
We don't care if our fans are right-winged, left-winged, anarchists or
whatever, FT is an unpolitical band and we don't care about people's
personal political belief, unlike the german media.
Thanx for support to all our german fans! We'll be back in Germany with
a vengeance, promised.
On behalf of the band, Herr Morbid
